Wigmore Hill Climb

It is coming up to that time of year when riders thoughts turn to the Hill Climbing Season. Well some do. They are great social occasions and generate a wonderful atmosphere that other TT's often do not. Also a time to meet an chat with those that you may not have seen for a while.

The Wigmore CC are promoting for the 33rd year, their Classic Hill Climb on October 5th. Fancy giving it go? Again a tremendous prize list is on offer and well spread too. You do not have to be a specialist hill climber to enjoy such an event.

Not convinced? Come on, give it a go and you may be wanting to come back for more. The Wigmore event apart from incorporating the Kent CA Championship is also the event chosen by 10 clubs who use it for their domestic hill climb championship.

I attach a Prospectus (below). Entries should be received by me by Tuesday September 25th. Though may hold open for a few more days.

I look forward to receiving your entry. I will not object if you wish to let others know about this very popular Kent Hill Climb.

Yours in Sport,
Doug Laidlow

FBD Milk Ras - Free holiday to Ireland!

From the Time Trialling message board:

"Do you fancy a free holiday in Ireland, and the opportunity to experience the business end of a professional cycling event?

Owing to a late withdrawal, Team PrimeraSport.co.uk ARE IN NEED OF A TEAM MECHANIC for the 8-day FBD Insurance Milk Ras (Irish Milk Race). The event begins in Navan on Sunday 18 May, and finishes in Skerries on Sunday 25 May.

The race is UCI 2.2 ranked and has drawn a strong field of European national teams and British and Irish pro teams. Amongst those competing are Ciaran Power, Chris Newton, track pursuit silver-medallist Jenning Huizenga, David McCann and, perhaps bizarrely, track sprinter Craig McLean. The route (and weather) is always challenging and the racing is always exciting.

You won't need a great deal of technical know-how. The team mechanic rides with the team manager in the race convoy, and is required to leap out of the vehicle and perform wheel-changes for the team's 5 riders when required. In the evenings, he/she should clean the team bikes, pick flints out of tyres, replace inner-tubes etc. In return for this, all transport, food and accommodation is arranged and paid for you (though maybe not all the Guinness and whiskey!)

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience an entirely different perspective on professional cycle racing. If you have any queries, or if you are willing and are available between Saturday 17 May and Sunday 25 May, please contact Matt Melville on matthew_melville at hotmail.com or 07729 027792 as soon as possible. Even if you yourself can't help, I'd be grateful if you could 'spread the word'!

For more information on the race itself, see the race website

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

- Tim"

Is Your Club Affiliated?

There are a number of clubs that have not reaffiliated for 2008.
Is your club one of them?

Remember if your club is not a member of the CTT then you can't ride on CTT events!

The list of current clubs is on both the National and District website.

Linda has just got the list updated on the National site as there were some clubs that were listed that had not rejoined as well as some that had but were missing.

If your club is not listed then chase up your club secretary.

Remember "No membership....No Ride"

2008 Calendar

The 2008 Calendar is finally online after a lot of re-typing (my ocr software is good, but not that good!). I realise that not everyone can see Google documents - my employer won't let us access the site - so I will put it up in some more accessible forms soon.

If you find anything that really doesn't make sense it's probably a transcription error and I would appreciate notification.

Worthing Excelsior 25 - 18th May 2008

Change of Organiser

The original promotor - Keith Harmer - listed in the Handbook for this event, tragically died whilst cycling, last October, after the handbook information was submitted.
As is always the case when it really matters, attempts to get details of the new promotor printed in the book have failed. Obviously the last thing that his family wants is your entries landing on the doormat, so please get the red pen out and correct your handbook.

The organiser is now:

M Roberton
30 Pines Avenue
Worthing
West Sussex

Eddie Mundy

Dear All

I'm writing with the very sad news that Eddie Mundy died earlier today.

Eddie was a member of Addiscombe CC for over 50 years, and a member of the Road Records Association committee for over 30. He was RRA President for 7 years, and Records Secretary for a similar duration.

In the 1950s, Eddie twice broke the RTTC Competition Record for 24 hours, and won the 24 hour Championship in 1952.

At a personal level, Eddie was a great supporter of my efforts at breaking cycling records, and could always be relied upon to either sit in a car for hours as an Observer, or to stand in Central London to witness a 'turn' at some ungodly hour of the day.

A great guy, who will be sadly missed.

Ralph
