Finsbury Park Cycling Club Reliability Trial

The Finsbury Park Cycling Club is once again holding its annual Reliability Trial through the lanes of Hertfordshire in aid of Road peace, the organization campaigning for Road Safety and for justice for the victims of crashes caused by reckless or careless driving.

There are two routes – a 50km and a 100km – and route cards will be given out at the HQ on the day. The long route heads North, skirts Hertford and continues West between Hitchin and Stevenage. It then turns South through rolling country before returning to Potters Bar through the short sharp hills of ‘Little Switzerland’. The shorter route turns South earlier but has its share of ups and downs too.

The entry fee is a nominal £5 and refreshments will be available at the HQ.

Further info is available from Sam Parker samparker1uk@yahoo.co.uk

I look forward to seeing many riders out on the 16th of February.

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Kind regards
Sam

SCCU Sporting 21 mile TT

Dear Competitor,

The Southern Counties CU invite you to stretch your legs and open your lungs on

Sunday 24th March 2013 in the ever popular SCCU Sporting 21 mile TT

which will be held on the truly spectacular and breath taking GS334 course starting and finishing at Bletchingly. This event is also a counting event for Spoco SE. The vets A/S will be calculated using the CTT target times

This event a firm favourite with riders and for many years was organised by Don Glover on the behalf of the Croydon and District Cycling Association and latterly the SCCU. Don had intended to promote the event this year but circumstances sadly have dictated otherwise. No doubt many of you will have, in the past, ridden in events where you were either counted down with the parting quip of “do a good one” or more importantly, timed in by Don.

Don was not a great one for memorials so this year’s event is by way of a tribute to a very generous and enthusiastic supporter of all things cycling.

Do come and make this event one to be remembered and please spread the word far and wide so we will have a field Don would have been proud of. If a little extra incentive should be needed it is expected there will be a generous prize fund.

Wigmore Hill Climb

It is coming up to that time of year when riders thoughts turn to the Hill Climbing Season. Well some do. They are great social occasions and generate a wonderful atmosphere that other TT's often do not. Also a time to meet an chat with those that you may not have seen for a while.

The Wigmore CC are promoting for the 33rd year, their Classic Hill Climb on October 5th. Fancy giving it go? Again a tremendous prize list is on offer and well spread too. You do not have to be a specialist hill climber to enjoy such an event.

Not convinced? Come on, give it a go and you may be wanting to come back for more. The Wigmore event apart from incorporating the Kent CA Championship is also the event chosen by 10 clubs who use it for their domestic hill climb championship.

I attach a Prospectus (below). Entries should be received by me by Tuesday September 25th. Though may hold open for a few more days.

I look forward to receiving your entry. I will not object if you wish to let others know about this very popular Kent Hill Climb.

Yours in Sport,
Doug Laidlow

Good Friday Track Meeting

O.K., the CTT isn't involved in track racing, but this track meeting is promoted by the SCCU which is one of the major organisations in our District, so I think it deserves some cross-discipline publicity (if anyone actually reads this blog!!!)

Good Friday International Track Meeting 07

Bradley Wiggins and Rob Hayles top the bill on Good Friday.

In their first outing since the World Championships held the week before, both Wiggins and Hayles have promised to bring a rainbow jersey (or more!) to the Meeting.

They will be riding in the Ten Minutes pursuit and the Golden Wheel 20k Scratch Race.

Riders from Italy, Holland, Germany and the Czech Republic are all scheduled to appear as well.

The traditional Good Friday Meeting will be held at South London's Herne Hill Velodrome on April 6.

First promoted in 1903, this Southern Counties Cycling Union event is set to continue in the manner which has become its hallmark - exciting, entertaining racing featuring top class riders from home and abroad.

More to follow as the race programme is fixed and entry closed.
